Overdales won’t negotiate

  • You have to be wary of Overdales as they may instigate legal action if ignored for too long, usually long periods of token payments may induce better offers, but Lowell can be random in who it offers settlements too.
I’ve been paying them £1 a month for a while.

Spoke to a manager at Lowell today and he’s put in a half-arsed request for Overdales to pass the debt back to Lowell. We’ll see what happens with that.
  • Write to them with an offer for a full and final settlement of £300 to clear the debt. They should at least do you the courtesy of replying to accept or reject your offer. They buy debts at a pittance like pennies in the pound so they're still making a profit at that rate plus they get 25 years of payments in one go instead of waiting for 62 years for it.

I think it is also possible to be a bit cheeky here and write them a cheque for £300 on the provision that they only cash it if they accept your full and final offer. You might have to ask your bank to dust off a cheque book for you though.

If they refuse then you could decide to go the malicious compliance route and cancel your DD or standing order and write them a cheque for £1 each and every month. You could even write them 750 post dated cheques for £1 each and send them in one go to save postage though they'll probably just return them. Some banks charge £1.20 to process a cheque in a business account. Technically you are paying back the debt as per your CCJ but it is costing them money to do so. They aren't the only ones who don't have to cooperate.

You could even tell them that this is what you're going to do. They may not care but you never know.

Oh I like the sound of this. Thanks. I can’t understand why they won’t accept the £300 instead of waiting 62 years for £750.
