Mis-sold GAP insurance

I bought a car from Yes Car credit in 2006 and in 2011 it ‘died’ and I sold it for scrap. I was sold GAP insurance at the time, which I believe was useless, does anyone know if I can reclaim this?

Why was it useless?juicylucym said:I bought a car from Yes Car credit in 2006 and in 2011 it ‘died’ and I sold it for scrap. I was sold GAP insurance at the time, which I believe was useless, does anyone know if I can reclaim this?

GI is to cover an accidental write off just because you had no claim it does not make it useless.1

13 years later very unlikely even if there was a case.
But as mentioned, GAP not applicable to your circumstances1 -
Even if you could, 18 years has passed since you purchased it. Well out of time.

Not claiming on it because you didn't crash or have to claim isn't a reason for complaint. GAP insurance doesn't cover you for a used car wearing out 5 years after you bought itjuicylucym said:I bought a car from Yes Car credit in 2006 and in 2011 it ‘died’ and I sold it for scrap. People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I bought car insurance and didn't crash, I can't get my money back though. Not claiming doesn't constitute mis-selling, can give more details of why you think it was missold?juicylucym said:I bought a car from Yes Car credit in 2006 and in 2011 it ‘died’ and I sold it for scrap. Missold or misbought? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -

Thanks everyone for your comments, I paid a large amount for this to pay out if my car was written off. Someone told me that the GAP insurance being sold by this garage wasn’t valid so I paid for it but I would have never been able to claim regardless!!Looks like I was given false info or it’s been too long since. Thanks again for taking the time to respond to this 🙏0

In general gap insurance is one of the only worthwhile add-ons sold by a car dealer - and generally they do pay out. The issue is that you probably paid £300 for it through the dealer when you could have bought the same cover for something like £80 if you had shopped around.juicylucym said:Someone told me that the GAP insurance being sold by this garage wasn’t valid so I paid for it but I would have never been able to claim regardless!!0
