Impact on credit report

Options
My credit card got declined coz somehow the surname was misspelt during the application, they asked for documents which i sent but of course the surname didn’t match. The advice from Santander now is to cancel the application and apply again with the right data.

i am worried how this would show on the credit record and what impact it has - anyone been in similar situation has any advise? Thanks

You can check your credit files to see if the search under the wrong name found its way to your own records?

In itself the fact that you got your name wrong shouldn't be an issue from a credit perspective though, i.e. it would just show as another search.

It could potentially be an issue if there was anything showing on anti-fraud databases such as National Hunter, which exist to identify anomalies on applications, so if you encounter issues with future applications then that might be somewhere to check (via a subject access request).

I got a Santander current account where the name was setup with a typo (missing letter) - I only noticed when I tried to pay into it and the check of name flagged it up. I went into the bank and provided ID and they amended it in branch

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
