Turning heating/boiler completely off during the night?

We haven’t been sleeping well as OH has a cough, I’ve woken and felt chilly a couple of times with the weather turning cold. The Nest thermostat has said 14.5 or 15C, so I have put it up to 16C. Then when I wake in the morning the normal heating schedule has the house on its way to 18C which is our daytime minimum. If we were trying to economise on heating I’d add a sheet under the duvet next, and maybe wear more in bed!Fashion on the Ration

Just checked my settings, and I have it at 15o from 9.30pm.
It has yet to fall to this and come on overnight, but any lower than this would take the house too long to get 'cosy'(18o) again in the morning. Only the sitting room would be kept to this min overnight - bedroom is fully off until a half-hour before wake up.1 -

With a Nest thermostat you can see when the heating came on, we set our overnight temp to 12C and in five years it’s not come on once i.e. the house has never dropped to 12C. That’s including when we’ve been away in November and it’s been set to 12 C all day.Fashion on the Ration

I had mine at 14, but have changed it to 16 this cold weather
I have no idea tho how low it actually drops.

Picked up a Sanitas one from Lidl a while back and use it most nights when it is freezing outside. With 6 heat settings and a timer to turn it off after 1, 3, 6, or 12 hours, it does the job (usually go for No.1 for 6 hours).Heating is currently set to 16°C overnight, and it rarely (if ever) kicks in.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.2 -

For the bedroom, the bed provides the warmth. No excuse for anyone to be cold overnight - use whatever tog it takes, and an all-night leccy blanket if really needed.
Since I have a Hive, I can tell if/when it comes on overnight, and I know that it will do on occasion when the outside temp really drops, but it just needs tiny top-ups to get it back to 15.1 -
I realise now reading these posts that we have a relatively old fashioned system even though the house is only 12 years old. Timer to switch heating on and off at specific times and a thermostat set to a single temperature, hence why the whole thing just goes off at night. Grew up with no central heating so happy to have it like this anyway + extra layers of bedding and jamas2

For instance, mine is set to drop the sitting room temp from 18+ to the overnight 15 at 9.30 pm, because I know the room will remain adequately warm for hours afterwards. When do you turn yours down?
And I know it won't drop below 15o even in the coldest overnight weather.
And in the morning, it'll be up to a welcoming 18.5 before either of us gets up.
And by the time wife has departed for work, it'll have dropped to the 'day' temp of 18, or manually lower (touch my phone) if I'm going to be busy, or going out.
And, if we are cosy enough in the eve watching telly with a blanket over our knees and paws, then I'll often grab my phone and turn the heating off early.
And if we visit mil, then I'll again grab phone and get our heating back up to 18 just before we head home.
You wake up to a cold home - naahnahnanaaaahna.
