Paid parking but chased for PCN

Options
We parked at a car park in Derby. It has a payment point on the exit.

We did not pay when we entered the car park but used the pay point to pay on exit for the full day rate.

We're now being chased for a PCN. We did not receive the original letters as we've recently moved house and forgot to update the log book.

We've sent over proof to trace for the payment but advised as this was paid at the end of the session, then it is a correct charge. Advising as the appeal period is over, we can only appeal in court now or pay £170.

What should we do, we've paid it so take the chance in court or pay the amount?

Ensure that your V5c log book and driving licences are up to date

Keep your proof for any future court claim

    Name the parking company

Name the sender of the latest letters

Ignore the debt collectors letters, debt collectors are powerless

Come back to this thread if you receive a Letter of Claim or a court claim

As well as the advice above, you would be wise to write to the parking company confirming your current address and instructing them to erase your old address from all their records. Include proof of your current address.

Failure to do that is likely to see a court claim sent to your old address. You will then miss the opportunity to defend yourself and will no doubt get a default Judgment against you. Then miraculously, the claimant will write to you at you new address to claim their spoils.
Probably best to avoid tedious business of unravelling that mess.

Let them take you to court, every time.  Judges are not fools, they know these companies are scammers.

Defending is not 'taking a chance' but not insisting that they must ERASE the old address is very risky. Sort it out with an email and please answer the questions by @Gr1pr
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
