Osmo have various different oils with different finish effects, and they will send out little sample sachets so you can test which you prefer.

As per Section 62, a vanity unit is a whole different kettle of fish to doors and floors.  I think it would be a !!!!!! to keep looking nice with all the water splashes, soap, make up or whatever.
  • Thank you, everyone - I think I have more than enough to get on with
I also take on board what S62 says, and can imagine having to go 'polyurethane' or similar for the unit top to ensure it's fully water and mark proof.

  • We have various surfaces finished with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil. It brushes on easily then dries overnight to give a bare wood finish (or various tinted versions are available). It comes in matt, low sheen or gloss versions. It's certified for use on toys, which is reassuring, and is water repellent. Recommended uses include kitchen work surfaces, so I wouldn't think a vanity unit would be a problem.
  • Osmo is the go to but have a vast range which can be a nightmare to pick.
My go to is liberon finishing oil, I have both oak and beech worktops in my bathrooms and it stood the test of time however I also have oak thresholds and last February we had a pipe burst in the bathroom causing 15k worth of damage but the threshold was fine, I must say I was surprised however it does colour the wood slightly and depending on how many coats you put on does have a bit of a sheen.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'

I'm impressed with Cuprinol Clear Wood Preserver. I used on my DIY feather board fence. Enhances the natural wood colour and is for exterior and interior use.
  • Rubio monocoat seems like one of the best products around, not sure on price?
