Co-op bank can't set up standing order

Hi, I am trying to set up standing order with Co-op bank. Only got switched to them and slowly regret it at every step. Now I do not seem to be able to find option to set up standing order. I am normally clued up on things like that. Have been with many banks and never ever had a problem to find something as simple like that. Went throguh Co-op video guide and guess what. What they show in this guide is not reflection of what is showing in my banking page. Tried through the app and through webpage. Really frustrating that I can't do such a simple step. Anyone can advise in case they move it into some secret place that I can't think of? Many thanks.

  • Can't remember offhand and without trying this myself. If you were to select "pay someone new" it might subsequently  give you the option to"make this a standing order "

I think I had to do it on their web page rather than in the app. Not sure why.

I have tried it on web page and on the app. Both without success. Now I thought I will go and try again and this time I read the comment "You cannot include a reference, make a future-dated payment or set up a standing order when paying into this account."
The account I am trying set up a standing order to is from Co-op too, so looks like you can't set up standing order from Co-op to Co-op. This just confirmed my suspiscion that this bank is pretty bad.  Thanks for your effort.

What type of account are you trying to set-up the SO from? Is it a current account?

On my Co-op current account I go to "Pay and Transfer" then select an existing payee or enter a new one then there is a check box that says "Pay later or create a standing order". But the option is only there for the current account. Which is to be expected - it's very rare to find a savings account that supports standing orders.

It is for current account. Was on the phone with the Coop rep and was advised it is because I have entered reference when adding person's details :) looks like when seting up SO from Coop to another Coop account you have to call them to override it. Every step of the way I find more and more ridiculous rules they implement. Thanks all for your help.

If you regret it and keep finding ridiculous rules then why don't you move somewhere else? It only takes 10 minutes to open an account so there's no need to stay with a bank that's so archaic.

That is a stupid limitation, there's no two ways. It's stuff like this that makes Co-op Bank very hard to recommend sadly.
