Amazon Barclaycard - late DD collection

I got an Amazon Barclaycard a few months ago. There's a DD in force on one of my current accounts, and Barclays is supposed to collect the full amount due.

The October collection worked exactly as I expected and intended.

My November payment was due on the 14th (last Thursday). It's now Monday 18th and the money is still sitting in my bank account. Barclays hasn't yet claimed it.

Is this normal for Barclays? I've never experienced a late collection by any bank before (except when it was due at the weekend or on a public holiday, when it's always been taken on the next working day). If anyone has experienced a comparable late collection, has it caused any problems (interest, late payment charges, appearing on your credit report, etc.)? Obviously, it shouldn't cause problems, but that's not the same thing.

the only time I've heard of this happening at Barclays (& other banks too) is when there has been a computer glitch.  Have you checked online to see if there's any message from them to say there's a delay and how long til they might sort it?

Yes. Nothing. The last message I had from them was on 14 November. It said (incorrectly, of course) that they'd taken the DD payment.

OK - so what you need to know is how much is it going to cost you if the DD hasn't been paid.  Presumably you will be charged a fee for non payment and then interest.  Advise Barclays that this amount is now due and increasing each day the DD is not paid.  Tell them that you are being "financially disadvantaged" by their error and this needs to be logged as a complaint.  Mention the stress this is causing, potential harm on your credit history and the time you are spending trying to sort this out.

Then sit back and see what they do.

    Thanks.

At the moment, it isn't costing me anything. Indeed, there's actually a very small benefit to me. The money's in a Nationwide FlexDirect account, where it's earning me a few coppers a day in interest.

The issue is the potential cost if Barclays does treat it as a late payment. If that happens, I reckon that I should have a good case against them for compensation for that financial disadvantage. I'm hoping that I won't have to go through the hassle of a formal complaint. That'll only happen if they do treat it as a late payment. My question was more about other forum users experience, and whether it's likely that Barclays will actually treat it as a late payment in these circumstances, or whether they'll treat it as paid on time (as I think they should).

Barclays seem to take my payment over a much wider range of dates than any of my other direct debits. I had a 0% transfer on it that I'm paying back over a few months. I've ended up changing my direct debit to minimum payment as a back stop and manually paying the amount I want to on the same date every month instead

As has been posted on here before, it's done as a fixed number of days since last one, rather than a fixed day, mine flits around from 18th to 22nd depending on that and weekends, they always email you in advance though

A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I don't think that's what's happening in my case. It's now five days since the payment was due, and 36 days since the last collection, and the money still hasn't been taken. Oh, and five days since the in-app message saying that they'd actually taken it. I also had an in-app message on 12 November that said that the payment would be taken on 14 November.

I'd expect a bit of wobbling around because of weekends and public holidays. I'm used to that. But there's more than that at play here. This is the third working day after they said they'd collect on my DD.

I didn't reply to your comment, I was assisting the person who asked a question related to this

Your payment due date is affected, Barclays not taking the payment is separate

I think I'm finally getting somewhere. I contacted Barclaycard via their in-app chat again today. Their initial response was along the lines of "we collected the money last Thursday". Now read on...

That's not what happened with mine, and the we'll take x on y date but it's too late to change it now are particularly unhelpful emails. Solved by doing it manually every month though.
