Morning folks and thanks GERS. Winter is well and truly with us this morning. Minus 1 and a thick frost when I got up. With heavy snow forecast to land on us tonight. I'll keep saying it - I hate winter.
Today is the first day of my lengthy dental appointments to sort out my problems.. Dreading what's to come is an understatement. No other plans, I'll see what I feel like when I get back home.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. TAFF I hope you are feeling a bit better and taking it easy for once. Take care all, stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
The first frost of the season has arrived with a vengance. It's -2 outside and the forecast high is +4 degrees, I'm so glad that I have a stock of logs in the house. I won't light the wood burner just yet though it's all ready to go.On the way to my friends yesterday I called into the cafe near the marina to pick up a couple of scones for them. I resisted buying any of the lovely sweet things and also didn't get one for myself.
The husband of the couple is a long term friend and a retired solicitor so I had asked him to not only witness me signing a new will but also check it over. He found a couple of really inconsequential errors, grammar mostly and one phrase missing, so I'll get it back to my solicitor for correcting. Then we nattered for a while, very pleasant.
As planned (a first) I had some of the M&S bottled soup with a couple of the Cranston's sausages chopped into it - after being roasted beforehand. It was very tasty. Then I got trapped down a rabbit hole of checking the 1911 and 1921 censuses for some details of my late DF's family. The other day I found a photograph online of what was the place of his birth, along with 14 other siblings. I was actually shocked at the terrible state of the miner's cottages. Three rows of what I could only call stone-built tiny hovels. It really took me aback and made me understand how grateful he was to have made a better home with my late DM and raised my late brother and me. It's such a shame that it's taken me to this late age to have been smacked around the head with the realisation of the really harder side of life.Today the exercise class isn't on, the leader is away for a week, so I'll be trying hard to not lapse into sloth-hood. I'm going to clear out some unused / unloved mugs as I ordered some Cornish ware ones the other day.Keep warm folks, no rash working outside or hauling things around. Today feels like it should be approached gently.10 -
Good morning Gers, thanks for starting us.
A chilly start here, but dry after yesterday's rain.
Thank you for your kind words regarding dgd. When she was younger (she's 12 now) children were inquisitive and she would always answer their questions. She would tell them she cant see out of this eye (her right eye) but can see some shapes and colours with her left eye. Since April she has been at this school which is for 12 - 18 year olds. She boards there 5 days a week, going home at weekends as its 100 miles away but is the only school to meet her needs. From April until the summer break everything was fine, she loved it but since returning in September new students have joined and thats when the problems have started. She has reported it to her house parent who told her she was making a fuss, (house parent is a new member of staff). The problems range from pulling her chair sway when shes about to sit down to putting obstacles in her way so she trips over them and other silly things. Hopefully this is just a stage their going through settling in as I didn't expect it from older students. Let's hope today gives some answers. It makes me so upset she's on her own and can't share it with her parents in the evening as other children can.
Sorry for the long story, I just wanted to give you some background to this.
Have a good day all whatever you're doing x11 -
Morning all
No frost here it’s been raining all night so everything is just wet and cold. I have Rob coming today the other lady is poorly again our friends are busy today so I think we will have a day in and do some baking and maybe some card making for Christmas, I got a load more bits wrapped up yesterday still a few more to do but I will try and do that this week.
Dinner tonight will be gammon egg and chips I cooked the gammon yesterday and it’s in the fridge ready for slicing later. We have the will lady coming tonight with a witness to get our wills signed it will be good to have the updated ones in place.
Rob and I will take the dogs out for a walk later he really enjoys doing that.
Remmie I hope your dd gets some help at the school today for your dgd xxx
Have good days all and take care xx

Morning all, pretty icy underfoot when I took pooch out. I want to go and take my library books back to the town library this morning. I may not get any more yet I'll see, with DH having his hip op next week I might not be able to get out as much, and I've already renewed them once. The sc brisket was lovely last night, plenty left for another meal, though I'll probably freeze it. Even DS who is not normally a fan chose to have it instead of l.o. Chinese chicken. Freezers are getting pretty rammed though, you know how it isNeed a tidy in the kitchen/diner, we have the chimney sweep coming tomorrow, hopefully, as he called in sick & cancelled 3 weeks ago.Something with mince tonight!RR I'm not keen on wrapping either, at least there's not as much these days.Remmie hope the meeting goes well at school.Right need to go and wash my hair, I look a frightTake care all.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all,
Thinking of you TA. Remmie, I do hope they deal satisfactorily with the issue that your DGD is having.
I have been absent for some time, I seemed to need some down time after the last few months/years, but I am slowly getting back on track.
Today, I have had enough energy to sweep out the porch way of its leaves, I am having a quick rest before I polish the front door.
It is a general Monday of pottering around tidying up the house, although I am out this afternoon to visit mum. I have not been for over a week as I had a fibromyalgia flare, so it will be nice to see her and catch up on the activities she has been doing. Her social life is now busier than mine, since she’s been in her nursing home, lovely to see.
Thinking of all of you who have worries.
Take care.

Morning all, and thanks for the start @Gers
Jack Frost has visited overnight and I've been watching neighbours scraping ice off their car windscreens. Tomorrow they could be doing the same again but with snow as that's forecast for overnight. This week looks set to be sunny and cold, with daytime temperatures just above freezing and just below at night. I'm with you @TA, I hate winter.
I haven't done any family research for a good while, maybe I'll go back to it soon. You're right @Gers, it's so easy to fall down a rabbit hole. Both my DF and DM came from big families and their trees are in danger of falling over - I think some of the twiglets could do with a prune!
On the subject of Wills, I'd urge everyone to get them done sooner rather than later. DH and I only got around to it 6 weeks before he died - I shudder to think how much more complicated things could have been if we hadn't.
Yesterday's planned walk didn't happen; by the time I'd done what I needed/wanted to do, the sun had disappeared and it started to rain. Instead, I parked myself at the table near the radiator and sorted through yet more old paperwork, still waiting to be shredded. I'll have to do it in batches otherwise the motor might burn out! No idea where it all came from because I know it isn't that long ago since I last did it. Two empty ring binders went in the CS bag.
Today's plans are to sweep/mop the kitchen floor and make a start on sewing up a jumper I've knitted. I love the knitting part but not so much the sewing up.
Tea tonight was going to be some kind of salad - note, I say was - it's looking more like it's going to be Saturday's leftover chicken curry with rice.
Good luck with your dental appointment @TA.
Take care all and enjoy the day. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
Hi everyone,
Remmie, if I were on the staff I'd make the other children wear blindfolds for a few hours so that they could get a tiny feeling for what it's like for your dgd. I'm shocked by the teacher's dismissive attitude. I hope it's sorted soon.
TA, good luck at the dentist.
The procedure was ok yesterday. I opted for no sedation again, purely because I wanted to leave as soon as it was done. It was painful in parts but gas and air helped and it wasn't as bad as the first time I had it without sedation. Both times I've had a nurse telling me afterwards that I was brave and they wouldn't do it without sedation. Anyway the Dr was reassuring that everything was ok so hopefully that's the end of it for a good while. Sorry if it's too much information.
Have a good day.8 -
