PAYG top up failure

Charged my card with £35 cash and when went to top up the meter as usual, got an error message 
I have the receipts

Contacted EDF explaining and sent them the photos of the receipt and meter with the error message

This meter is old. I tried to upgrade a few times but the enginneers never show up. They used to pay the compensation for that via cheque but last time they sent me a code for me to get credit at the only one corner shop in my postcode who does transactions with the code but it is about 45m by bus one way, more depending on traffic, bus waiting time etc and it is so incoveniente - I dont drive. 

Anyone had similar happen and can please let me know how you received the money back? I suspect it won’t be as easy as going to the corner shop that processed my top up.
