Next car dilemma - EV or hybrid or wait

I have a 2018 Yaris, which is mostly fine but I'm getting to the age where I would love an automatic.
I'm currently doing around 8k a year - lots of trips less than 30 miles but 220 mile round trips once a month or so to see family - these are almost always day trips. I'm hoping to semi-retire soon and do more trips to see the family
Probably looking at something nearly new & we have had several toyota's with no problems so I'm biased towards them.
I've been looking at something slightly larger (as the grandkids are now old enough for us to take them out), so a Yaris cross hybrid or equivalent makes lots of sense to me.
I would be very keen to move to an EV but am concerned about the 220+ trips - which with a trip out/detour could get over 260 miles.
I have a drive so charging at home wouldn't be a problem.
I've looked and read a lot but I don't know anyone in a similar situation, all the people I know with an EV also have a petrol car for bigger trips & that makes no sense for me.
PHEV always seem larger than I want, so it feels like my choice is hybrid or EV. My head says hybrid but my heart says EV.
I guess my fear is what if an EV doesn't fit my needs?
Finally I don't want to spend a lot - £25K plus about 6K for the yaris would be my max I think. I don't need to change at the moment, so an alternative is to give it another year, but now that I'm thinking about changing its becoming more appetising.
Is anyone running an EV is similar circumstances?
Thanks for any comments

EVs with longer range are more expensive. I have one (~285 real world range in warmer months 330 nominal)
surely the answer to your dilemma is to use public charging on a longer journey?
you’ll effectively pay similar to the equivalent cost of petrol motoring for the added KWh’s(, but if you only recharge sufficiently to get you home then in reality you’ll still do a large proportion of that journey on cheap power.1 -
Hyundai Kona EV would possibly suit you. Not too large.... roomy enough for occasional passengers. Great range, easy to drive. Not too expensive. ( comparatively speaking ) . Plenty of second hand ones about these days1

Curiously, I'm in a very similar position as YellowSupporter - and am toying with the same questions. I am also looking at an electric kona (the 64kw version which should give 300+ miles between charges). But also the hybrid golf or HRV. I wonder if hybrids really make a lot of difference though unless they are plug-in ones. I feel I might be better to either save a few pounds and stay with petrol or make the EV leap. I'm kicking the can down the road until January I think but will be interested in other responses too....

I did not recommend a TM3 to the OP as they mentioned having a Yaris and considering something slightly larger - Yaris Cross or Corolla if keeping to the brand. The TM3 is much larger so, as a consideration for the OP, I suggested the MG4. While I really like my TM3, I will not just recommend it to anyone for any set of needs regardless.
I am interested in your comment about the Tesla's having come down in price.
Where do you get evidence for that please?
I was just working with a friend to buy a new Tesla in the past week and prices are very firm right now. They have gone for a TMY which has some incentives available - the equivalent TM3 would be more expensive (and more than I paid a year ago).0 -
price drop is all the net and elsewhere saying its fell by approx 25% as people seem to be falling out them.a friend lost £26000 in two years on one

I wanted an auto when I last changed car, and after a test drive I was going to get the Yaris Cross, however there was a long wait to get one, (this was a couple of years ago), so ended up with a Kia Niro hybrid which I love.An all electric car is not for me, and although sceptical about "self charge" at first, I am more than happy with my choice, and would certainly consider either another Kia, or the Yaris Cross next time I change, particularly given the 7 (Kia), and 10 (Toyota) warranties....."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0
