When you say "MisSold" are you paying for the course?

    Thanks for all the responses!
For those asking why i only have 40 hours., its because i have childcare commitments.
Had I known it would require so much time i think i would of considered something else.
    What's your undergraduate degree in?

    what is the subject?

is it by exam, assignment, thesis or what?

are you doing it part time while working?

    who is the provider?

What does the contact consist of? I did a full time LLM by examination 40 years ago and the only tutorial or lecture time we had was eight hours a week. 18 hours a week sounds like a lot...
I'm doing a LLM (not by examination) and the formal contact time is perhaps 2 hours a month. I'm studying with the OU.

18 hours sounds a vast amount - I got about 10 hours a week on my undergraduate... The other 30 was pretty much self directed.

Just out of curiosity, is it by thesis/dissertation or assignment or some other form of assessment?

    What subject(s)?

For my LLM there's a dissertation (60 credits / 12 months), and then 90 credits comprised of modules (30 credits each/6 months) on legal research and perspectives, international law, and business law.

Then there is 30 credits of module(s) which you pick from across most of the the OUs catalogue

I started a MA in law with another institution, but didn't gel with the course, so I've transferred 30 credits, meaning I don't need to do the optional element, only the 150 credits of mandatory study.

Assessment on the 30 credit modules is by 3 tutor marked assignments and then an end of module assignment which is the "examinable" element. I'm not sure what the setup is for the 60 credit module, as that's for next year.

The course I'm on has been discontinued, but a fresh LLM is apparently due to launch in 2026 or 2027 - no information on how that will be assessed or the subjects being covered is out yet though.

It would be helpful to know what the subject is as other people who may have done something similar could comment on their experience of the study required. I'd agree with others that 18 contact hours a week sounds like a lot, my own Masters (Information and Library Studies) had around 10-12 contact hours a week at most, and I probably did another 20-30 hours self study each week. Not surprisingly the contact hours were higher in the first semester (which I'm guessing is where the OP is now) due to setting the foundations of the course, the second semester was less contact and more self study.

    Thanks @Emmia.

For some perspective - I did my LLM 40 years ago full time at LSE.  You could either do 4 subjects and an end of year exam or three subjects and a dissertation.  I chose 4 exams.

Across the whole of the University of London there were about 60 different legal subjects offered and we were encouraged to shop around before choosing the 4 we wanted to do.  One of the subjects I really wanted to do was Comparative Constitutional Law, but when a reading list of many pages was handed out in the first tutorial I thought "That's a lot of reading for the year".  When I discovered that the reading list was for the next tutorial in two weeks I ran for the hills!
