Smart meter taking readings but not recording usage
Options
Hello,
I switched to Octopus from EDF a couple of months ago and use a smart meter. I'm only being charged for electricity, not gas.
In the meter reading section there is one electricity section which takes both daily usage and then monthly readings - this works fine.
However there are two tabs for gas - one that shows daily usage but no readings and another that shows readings but no usage, and the last reading was from September. The smart meter is showing gas being used (and the corresponding cost) but it doesn't seem to be sending it through.
I've been watching to see where this goes but so far they haven't been in touch. If I leave this alone, would it cause any repercussions? Of course I'm letting the credit build up so I have the cash to pay for any bills.
Thanks in advance.

One possible repercussion is that they will estimate your gas usage to be more than your actual usage.Reed1

Yes, best to get it sorted out to be honest. Are you taking readings yourself monthly? If you are, I would start submitting those to Octopus so at least you can create a pattern for accurate billing. (The risk is that right now if the battery should fail in the gas meter, you will end up with estimated bills because the supplier has not had readings)
That last reading you are seeing for September - was that prior to your move of supplier?Do the readings between the meter and the in home display match? Or are you not seeing the readings on the IHD either? (Assuming you have one)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Mine did the same with gas and in September the electricity stopped sending readings as well. Octopus have said the meters might need power cycling, an engineers coming out at the end of December. The email does say to replace the meters but it could just be a standard response.1

I spoke to Octopus via email who said that the meter is reading them just fine but they are not being included in the bill (for some reason); the solution was to submit a gas reading and that's where they left it (which I have since done).Last reading for September is the opening reading I submitted to them manually.Readings between the meter and home display match. It has been 2 bills now with just electric - no mention of gas, not even an estimate. There was no mention in the email from Octopus support about getting the meter checked - just said submit a reading for November.Might just need to do manual entries monthly which is fine I guess.0 -
Do manual but keep on at Customer Services because it really needs sorting.0
