best way to get insurance for a europcar van hire for three days help please

Hello all and thanks in advance for any help. i am going to be moving from east anglia to wiltshire shortly and i need to hire a van to do so. the only company i can see that will facilitate this is europcar. it works out roughly £54 a day. but the excess is £1500 unless i pay £22.85 a day which brings the excesss down to £250. i havent hired a van in a very long time since i got a motability car. i cannot see anything that says i cannot hire a van so assuming that this is the case and i just hire as normal, i was wondering if firstly, anyone knows if i wouldnt be able to hire the van and secondly if there is a better/cheaper way to insure it. i will need the van for three days in total. thank you all for any help. the dates would be 25th -27th november if this helps. thank you all again

  • Buy a separate Excess protection policy will be much much cheaper
  • but how and with who? as ive not done this before.

  • also if i take out the basic package with europcar/van which is free, it says that it doesnt cover things like tyres, windows, just theft and collision. yet reduce my excess says that they do. but if im not paying for the extra protection im guessing they wouldnt cover it and i would be left with a big bill? i cannot see excess amounts anywhere on europcar van hire what i am liable for on the basic package. i am very confused sorry

Google Hire Van Excess Insurance and you'll find a range of options, most will also add the additional damages.

The one downside of excess insurance is that you have to pay the excess first and then claim it back so you'll need a card with £1,500 space

If you are only going to be hiring once. Is it worth the few £££ you might save against the risk?
