If you live in an urban area with a car club you could try comparing that for your usage. You would also need to check that it would be available when you need it, if your usage is time critical.
People on very low mileages often cling on to their car, beyond the point that it makes any financial sense.
We switched between two cars and one car several times. When running one car I would hire a car for a day if I needed it, which worked out cheaper than keeping another car on the road.0 -

What you could do is next time you buy an annual policy in full, start putting a monthly amount into a car insurance pot, so after 12 months you have the money. It's like paying monthly in reverse and you might make a bit of interest. Easier said than done of course. I used to always pay monthly unless I could afford to pay up in full when it was due, which for me is always February and it depends how Christmas went.0
