Volvo Car, 1 week ownership ISSUES

Just picked up my 20 plate XC90 last Friday (so not even a week yet)

2 points I’ve got hopefully people can help!?

1 - Car was in today due to heavy sweat staining and looks like this is unable to be rectified, after being deep cleaned. And garage doesn’t seem to think they can get this out and are now saying it’s worn the fabric, when clearly it’s not.

2 - looks like the front end has been in a hit of some sort, can tell be the signs. The garage was unaware of this (but the way they were speaking, somebody knew!) and fixes have been done… (I must admit it has been done to a good standard) But most importantly I have cracks and dem-lamination in both front headlights and garage doesn’t seem to want to replace them.

Has anyone experienced any of these issues and how do I go about resolving this?

I have evidence these were cracked before purchasing the car, we just never noticed this. Garage said they weren’t but phoned Volvo and they said the dated photos COULD be used as evidence.

Did you view and test drive the car before purchase?

If there were these issues (which sound like they are visible to the lay-person), why did you go ahead with the purchase?  Even if the car was ordered online, if you collected in person and, no doubt, completed paperwork on the premises, it will not count as a distance purchase.  You could have pulled out at collection though.
  • Grumpy_chap - thank you for your reply.

unfortunately I didn’t notice these in person when viewing the car. Only looking back photos I took of the car at the time. I guess it’s one of these perspectives of being blindside at what you like 🤣

And the issues weren’t highlighted by garage on handover or even noticed by the garage when they were selling the car, so it’s took them by the surprise also!

The seats of course to look good like the interior are sprayed to make look fresh and new, which is nice but it’s not until it’s dried off you notice the marks.

when picking up the car it was evening time and dark and when checking around the car it was pointless due to darkness.

I’m still within my month of handing the car back.

im just asking where can I stand with getting these issue rectified?

Within what month of handing the car back?

Does the Dealership offer a 30-day exchange scheme?
If so, that will likely be in addition to your consumer rights and you will be tied by the rules of the scheme.
If you had a trade-in, that will likely be long gone and not possible to return to you.
Does the 30-day scheme require that you buy another car from the same Dealership?  They often do.
  • Sorry I think it’s 14days you can hand the car back after the sale.

Ive never had to go down these routes before.

luckily I never traded my vehicle in!! I decided against it at the time and held onto it.

Nope their is no scheme such as another car, before I purchased this vehicle from the dealer I asked all these questions with the sales person, and it’s a simple hand back keys if your unhappy to back out the deal, but with that could take upto 2weeks for money to be returned to myself.

There is a 14-day change of mind return if this was a fully remote purchase.  Given that you collected in person, it very likely is not a fully remote purchase.

Did you complete any paperwork at the Dealership?

Have to say I love that the seats aren't water marked, or liquid marked - sweat stains - presumably determined by the sniff test? I would try a steam cleaner on the seats, and then use a good brand op upholstery sealer if you do manage to get them clean - if you take that route.

The trouble with a used car like this is that a 20 plate XC90 is going to be a lot of money (by my standards) and like you I would expect it to be in VGC. I think to some - particularly lease car users - they are not bothered, and the care and attention may be far below what you would like to find.

I was looking at a used car in the £30k price bracket that had a rip in the drivers seat leather where someone had probably sat down with keys hanging out or something. The dealer was of a mindset that it was a used car, but they could get someone to look at it if it was a deal breaker. My expectation is that the car is as good as it's going to get when its for sale on the forecourt.
