  • "FYI - Spain is sometimes excluded if you buy a "Europe" policy, check the wording, againfound this out as the last ski trip was in Spain!"
Could you please advise which travel insurance companies exclude Spain from Europe for winter sports ?
    Just seems ridiculous.

All Clear offer a Europe excluding Spain, Cyprus, Malta and Turkey policy but also one that includes them. Their Europe policies, in both cases, also include Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia and lots of other insurers include these and Turkey in "Europe".

Still not as bad as a prior client where Israel was part of "Europe" but that was mainly due to the Middle East head office being in UAE which would cause problems for staff going to the regional HO.
  • I am getting a new quote from Stasure at the moment for next my Ski trip,  the first questions are:

    Where are you travelling to?

    UK only
    Europe
    Worldwide

    Is anyone visiting...

Spain, Balearic or Canary Islands, Greece or Greek Islands, Cyprus, Malta, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, or Tunisia?

You can get cover for these areas, but you do need to be aware there is a different policy with Spain/Greece etc.

  • Hello

    I'm quite desperate for help.

I'm aware that many companies won't insure existing conditions etc

We are very confused.  My wife's appointment and initial appointment have been cancelled twice.
We were advised by companies like Staydure and similar that all pre-existing conditions won't be covered.
Did the rep get that right?

Mrs UnsureAboutthis medical conditions are not related at all to the appointment she is waiting for - it's a common problem women get once they are 60 plus. I was surprised when the agent said her other, pre-existing conditions wouldn't be included as I thought the conditions that would not be included are ones possibly relating to the appointment she is waiting for. It is a non-urgent appointment and she has been waiting for close to six months

Did the agent get it wrong? I say this because I've read today, not sure where on the net, that "undiagnosed conditions won't be covered... pre-existing conditions can be covered if not linked."

If you are going on hols and you are being treated successfully for high cholesterol and you are waiting for an appointment lets say hypothetically for a painful knee, that means they won't cover your pre-existing condition and you may think, no big deal. However, heart attacks and strokes are related to cholesterol

Different companies take different approaches. I've certainly known some to blanket exclude all conditions whilst you are under investigation for a new condition. Others are harsher still and simply won't insurer you whilst under investigation.

Ultimately shop around. If you believe you know what the new condition is then see the difference between declaring that condition -v- not being able to. Given the prices you are mentioning a private doctors appointment may well be less than the difference in premiums.

I do find that some of their policies are ridiculous. If the undiagnosed condition (I can guess what it might be as I am a female of similar age) is something pretty minor, it really shouldn't affect other pre existing conditions. I  came across a complaint by a woman who made the mistake of telling her insurer that she was about to have a routine scan (a mammogram I think) days before going on holiday. She had no suspicious symptoms. She was just being sensible and having the routine check. The insurer suspended all her cover until after the scan results. In effect we are punished for being sensible!

We have a policy through my bank - my OH has a bit of a list of pre-existing conditions, some are covered and some aren't. The last time we travelled they were awaiting a diagnosis and the insurers simply said that the diagnosed condition wouldn't be covered unless we gave them a diagnosis before travel. They aren't helpful but you should be able to find an insurer that covers existing conditions although the premium may be higher. Unfortunately, Barclays are changing their rules so pre-existing conditions now have to be renewed every year (and at an additional cost).

Many thanks to everyone who has tried to help.

Which insurance company is/would be sensible and ignore/not cover as stated above but cover pre-existing conditions?

I get it if the appointment/scan/tests you are waiting for sound serious, e.g., fainting, dizziness, chest pains, etc., but a relatively straightforward lady's problem, almost always linked to age, should allow a travel insurance company cover preexisting conditions but not the diagnosis you are waiting for.

I took out annual travel insurance  with Travelsafe premier cover in November declaring conditions which I was covered for. I then had an appendicitis which needed a CT scan and they saw something and said I need an MRI. I phoned Travelsafe to advise them and they said they wouldn't cover me for an condition found in MRI? I thought the whole point taking out insurance when you book is that any new conditions were covered.

Travel safe appears to be an American  Travel Insurer.

    This is a UK website.

Insurance provisions may not be the same as in UK.

Your policy document  should give you information about cover for new conditions arising after taking out the policy.
