Do I pay for Windows where quality is poor?

Hi, I've just been getting my house done up with replacement windows by a company with a decent rep, but the Glass which has a "lead effect" has a poor finish on at least 5 different panes of glass!  The fitter has agreed it's not good and I have told the company that the glass will need to to be replaced as it looks bad but the job will technically be finished tomorrow and that is when payment should be done. So my question is do I still pay, knowing the glass will have to be reordered & fitted, or refuse to pay until it's sorted correctly, which will take weeks etc?

I would suggest you pay 75% and have a discussion about holding back a bit but I guess it's going to depend on the terms and conditions you agreed.

If the job isn't good enough get an email over to them tonight expressing your disappointment and dissatisfaction and how you don't feel happy paying the full amount until the problems have been rectified.

    A question for Microsoft? ;)
  • How many windows in total were fitted? and you need to know the exact number you're unhappy with.
    Let's Be Careful Out There
  • 9 windows and about 5 of them the "glass lead" effect is not great but the good news is the fitter agrees & were going around today( as it was getting dark when they finished yesterday & couldn't see great) to evaluate which glass panels needs replacing!  He said it shouldn't be a problem, it's just I don't feel comfortable paying it off in full if it's not completed in a satisfactory condition!  I've paid over half of what's owed so it's not like I haven't paid anything.

Yeah I've already paid over half as paying in 3 quick instalments over a period of weeks, so today would be final payment as job is on paper completed on paper etc.  I've phoned them about the issues but it was only the email later last night that I said I wouldn't be paying untill the job is totally completed with the replacement glass etc!
