Boots.com - Furious

I placed an order on xmas day from boots.com in the sales, to treat myself with a present...
But later that day I thought better of it and found out I needed the money for something else, I paid by papal by the way. The payment had already been allocated to Boots, which wasn't a problem as they normally do that. Anyway, I cancelled the order later on Christmas Day.
4 days later, the status on the order was still shown as cancellation pending, so I emailed them saying i need the money for something else quickly, and i had cancelled it a while ago.
Today i got this reply:
Dear Mr Thorley,
Thank you for contacting us at boots.com about cancelling your order
I'm very sorry but the cancellation did not go through on the order and it is going to be dispatched.
We will contact the carriers and try to stop them delivering to you. If this isn't possible, you can refuse delivery. It will then be returned to our warehouse and you will be refunded.
I'm sorry for any trouble this may cause you.
The status on my order still shows cancellation pending, but they are dispatching my order, despite cancelling ages ago! I needed the money by today, but now there is no way of getting it, so I'm screwed  Whats more I'll have the hassle of returning it and getting a refund that way.
Grrrrr

Happy New Year Sam. When you order on line, you need to take time and care. Read everything slowly and be sure. Canceling is hard work as you found out! We all have to live out our mistakes and some are bigger than others! If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
and BOOTS are to blame because???0

A similar thing happened to me,ordered and decided to cancel, then the order was disaptched.
Rang the customer services, very nice bloke, apparently I shouldn't have been able to cancel (if you read t&c's, it states nothing can be done once order confirmed ie can't cancel). The courier never delivered so Boots cancelling it with them worked fine. There was a delay with the refund, but as soon as I emailed them they put it straight through for me.0
