New to a tenancy. Need supplier advice

Make sure you start by finding out who the existing supplier is at the property and open an account with them. Then maybe consider a move to your chosen supplier.1

As soon as you take possession (not necessarily the moving in date) you should read all the meters yourself (electricity, gas, water) and submit the opening readings to the existing suppliers, registering for an account.Never rely on anyone else reading meters for you, or you could end up paying for use by the previous occupier or during a void period.Never use an inherited card or key for a pre-paid meter, always get a new one from the supplier.Having done that you can then choose new electricity and gas suppliers. You'll have to guess your annual kWh usage at first.Send monthly kWh readings if you don't have smart meters doing that for you.2
