I used to post on here but then "life" got in the way, as it does for us all at some time or other. Our late Queen had her "annus horribilis" in 1992 and I've had mine this year. I'm back now as I know I can rely on you lovely people for virtual support.
Bit of background - DH was diagnosed with lung cancer at the beginning of the year; just before Easter DS was told he has atrial fibrillation (he's 43); then we found out DBiL has prostate cancer. Come September/October I had cataract surgery on both eyes - successful and obviously needed but I could have done without it at that particular time. Next up, DS's medication for his heart was causing his kidneys to fail so his Health Care team are juggling with different tablets, strength etc to get the balance right. Kidneys now seem to be OK, thankfully, but AF is still causing concern. And finally, DH passed way at the end of October, at home which is what he wanted. I can't wait to see the back of this year.
I'm doing OK - or at least better than I expected I would. We both knew it was a question of "When" rather than "If" and I'm thinking I must have been mentally preparing myself for a good few months. DS has been a rock during this time and continues to be so, despite the fact he doesn't live near me and has a full time job as well as his own health problems. And I have lovely neighbours who keep checking up on me. We're currently in limbo waiting for the PTB to get a move on with all the admin stuff. The furthest we have got so far is to have a meeting with the Funeral Director to discuss funeral arrangements - we've gone for a Direct Cremation, not everyone's choice, I know, but it's what DH and I agreed on. And the equipment we had on loan (profiling bed, commode etc) has been collected so my living room is a living room again.
Oh, and the fridge/freezer gave up the ghost in October too! I have a new one now, smaller but big enough for a one-person household. I have a small grocery delivery coming this afternoon, a strange experience adjusting to smaller shopping lists but at least it won't take an eternity to put away. Tea tonight is h/m spaghetti bolognaise and I'll be making some fruit scones later today.
I've been busying myself with drawing up To Do lists (I'm a List person) and am trying to cross off at least one thing each day. Slow progress but I'll get there.
Anyway, that's enough waffle from me for now but I'll be back tomorrow.Be kind to others and to yourself too.14 -
Morning All
YorksLass I have been following you on MMM and was so very sad to hear of your DH passing. As you say everyone deals in different ways but when you are with a loved one through their last struggles I believe we start grieving then. Sending you big hugs xx
Gers I will look at the recipes you sent Derek as DH keeps asking if we can try some venison as our local butcher stocks it
SO as others have said please try to go for a walk I'm sure just being in the fresh air will help
I have just been to see one of lovely friends (her husband is now under palliative care) it should have been both me and DH but when he went for his 2nd shingles jab yesterday they also gave him a pneumonia jab as well.this morning he has woken up with the shivers and is roasting hot so he is still in bed ( same thing happened after his 1st jab so not surprised really)
Hope everyone has as good a day as they can, hugs to all who want them

Morning all...This interminable lurgy has developed into a bit of trouble breathing so waiting on the all new [ apparently] prescription line to order a rescue pack. Got a tip run this morinng, I could have done without it to be honest, but it's booked and I do have a bootful so girding my loins and off I'll go. I was going to stop off at the alllotment but I'm thinking not now, but then again, if I stay in the house all I'll do is start dwelling on stuff and feeling sorry for myself which doesn't help at all. In other news, a client of the plumber is getting rid of a range cooker for nowt, so I just have to organise some strong people to pick it up and it's mine..total result. It's the right fuel [ gas] the right colour, and almost the right size [ 10cm less but quite frankly], that's going to save us well over a grand in buying a new one. If we pay for the cleaning, professional jobbie and getting it here, it's still a bargain. Although I will probably clean it myself having said that. So I went to the tip and came back with a bicycle to donate to a place that teches people how to repair them. And I made a tomato and smoked garlic soup last night with the last of the ripe tomatoes from the greenhouse, looking forward to that later...Sue, good to see you again, and condolences on your husbands passing. I was reading the make do and mend, following along but have missed a month, so wasn't up to date. Glad your son is being a rock for you. Ruby, well done on getting some off her anyway. Trouble is, it builds and builds and pretty soon you're completely out of pocket. Scarlet, I'm the same now, but I think mine is definitely exacerbated by napping in the day.Allie, you've had a bit of rubbish day haven't you? Fingers crossed today is better. Gers, happy excercising today! and how lovely of her to serve people anyway! SO, if the walk and talk is too difficult, how about joining a knitting or crochet or a book group or somethng like that where at least you have interaction and it's not related to bereavement? Izzy, what a pain about your eye, glad you've got anti's. Shame about your clients husband, watching it happen is really hard. Your parcels sound tasty..mhefin, huzzah to it being fixed! Chris, sounds an interesting job! Take care all, do something fun today because you might as wellNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi9

Morning all (just),
More packing last night, now up to 100 boxes and probably need 25 more. Apparently BIL (who is just down the road) has c. 100 flattened boxes in his loft from his move a few years ago so DH will check that out today. Another tip run this morning with an old wardrobe and various chipped/cracked items of bakeware that I’m not sure why I kept….Tonight I’m going to finish the kitchen cupboards as far as possible as the first load is happening tomorrow aaaargh.
Sorry you don’t feel up to walking and talking @silver-oldie but the fresh air might be just what you need xx
Great to hear the Raeburn is back up and running @mehefin
I guess 50% is better than nothing @RedRuby1231 – hope you get the remainder next week.
@AlwaysAllie – what an awful day you had – have some hugs x
@-taff – bargain on the range cooker whoop!
Gosh @YorksLass – sorry to hear of your awful year, such a lot to be dealing with. Sending love to you x
Have a good day everyone.

Welcome back @Sue and @YorksLass - my condolences to you both. @Sue - I'm not sure when the grief lessens. @YorksLass -it's all brand new for you so you'll still be running on adrenaline. Once all the 'sadmin' and cremation are done is when things start to feel worse.@Taff - !!!!!! take things a bit easier!@Coxy - things are ramping up for you and your OH. I'm not sure if packing or unpacking is the bad bit.My pool session was very good and I'm happy I made the effort. Now got the towels and costume hanging up in the utility room to dry. I'm 'recovering' with a coffee and TV.6

Evening all,I was so sorry to hear of your awful year @YorksLass , and am sending my sincere condolences to you. There seems to have been so much sadness recently on here@Coxy, good luck with the impending move!We picked up the tablets for Ly1apooch this morning. I'll submit the insurance claim so far tomorrow! Then I went shopping but got stuck in awful traffic delay on the bus home thanks to 4-way traffic lights due to roadworks. Wasn't even worthwhile as I only got a few bits. The work van had to go in again but apparently still isn't right. Such a shame the old one was written off when someone drove into it as it was parked up - it was much more reliable. DH is trying to get various things sorted before his hip op the week after next.Scarlet - how's your cardmaking doing- I'm quite pleased with myself so far, I've been sat watching tv with a lap thingy and doing a few each night so they're mounting up. Got some more Xmassy backing paper and new glue in the range when I was out. Ooh mentioning the range made me remember @Taff 's new aquisition, that sounds brilliant!DH has just made me a cuppa so will love you and leave you with many hugs for those who need one x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
