Good morning, don't know what the weather is doing, I think it's ok.
I've been up since 5am, got fed up of lying awake, it's absolute murder - my eyes spring open at ridiculous o'clock and that's it
Ruby, hope you get your money from Rob's mum. Difficult situation isn't it.
Izzy, hope you managed to get a Drs appt, not easy these days is it.
Rosy, sorry to hear about your radiator problems, hope you can get sorted out with the minimum of mess and upheaval.
Coxy, hope you and dh are ok now
SO, I' m sorry you've been feeling low, hope you soon feel a bit better.
I made Christmas puds yesterday, and pureed some cooking apples I'd been given. They're portioned into bags in the freezer now.
I have jobs to do today, I'll pull myself together and do them, but I know I'll be yawning all day.
Hope everyone has as good a day as they can, thinking of our sad and poorly people.
Take care folks.

Morning - thanks for the start @ScarletRibbons
I’m hoping today is less stressful than yesterday. Started off with having a filling at the dentist - when it’s the back teeth I struggle with swallowing and then start panicking. It’s only happened once before but happened yesterday too - dentist is brilliant and goes as slow as necessary and also says it’s not an uncommon reaction; I feel stupid though.Walking back to the car and found an injured juvenile swan - a few phone calls and no help available but fortunately the vets inside Pets at Home were nearby and brilliant - shout out to them! Three vet nurses walked back with me and scooped him up and carried him back - possibly not a viable ending for the creature but better than a painful death on the pavement. (Took them chocolates and also emailed their customer service (and got a great reply)).The rest of the day was fine till Bdog did an escape trick - he was probably only gone for 2-3 minutes but in the dark with cars on the road, I’m afraid I panicked and felt tearful all evening - think it was a culmination of the whole day. He was oblivious though a little subdued though he hadn’t been told off at all just praised for coming back when he did (difficult to do, but necessary).I’m hoping today is better though the van is in for an expensive diagnostic to try and solve an ongoing engine light issue - I just want it fixed!!
Sorry that turned into a an essay!Have a good day all

Morning allI feel your pain Scarlet. I woke at 4.15am yesterday and dozed but didn't really go back to sleep. Managed to sleep until 5.55am this morning, feels like a lie in!Meeting up with a couple of ex-colleagues today. I worked in a prison library and the prison itself has had a terrible inspection report which didn't surprise me one bit so it will be interesting to hear all the gossip.Looking really dull and misty out there this morning but at least it's dry!Hope everyone has a good day x9

Morning all - thanks to @Scarlet for starting us off. I usually wake at about 5.00a.m. every morning, sometimes I can nod off again sometimes I can't. Mind you, I do go to bed ridiculously early in winter to watch TV there. Falling asleep isn't normally a problem - seems like it's head down, eyes closed and immediately asleep. I listen to podcasts and have never heard any all the way through. I hope that you manage a better night tonight @Scarlet.When my cleaner arrived yesterday I took away some smelly food waste and then drove up to the wee cafe at the marina. As I walked in the lovely (and heavily pregnant) owner smiled as she said that they weren't open yet and then gestured to the five other people at tables! The opening hour has gone back from 10.00a.m. to 11.00a.m for the winter, posted it up on various social media sites and her own web pages, all in vain.
She laughed then served me. As I was there a total of four others wandered in too. Her kindness and generosity of spirit was so touching.
The postie brought me a couple of the things I had ordered earlier in the week so the sofa was soon covered in wrapping materials. I'm happy with my splurge purchases.Today I'm going back to the exercise class at the pool. I got out of the habit when a cough wouldn't go away and my hip was at peak soreness then slipped into sloth. I'm now got the contents of my swim bag strewn across the floor to sort out. I'm also got some lamb and rosemary chipolatas in the oven, I like to have something in my soup.Dawn is creeping into the sky and the grey sea fret is lifting. Perhaps the day will be dry?@AA - what a dreadful day for you, I hope that you are feeling better today.@Chrisca - enjoy your catch up.@SO - things always seem worse in the dark and cold days of winter, all the depressing thoughts can crowd out everything else. Be gentle with yourself, the feelings are better than being numb.Hugs to all.11 -
Good morning all
Thank you for the start Scarlet
It's raining again. Should be going to walk and talk but can't face it.
Take careIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.8 -
Good morning, thanks for the start Scarlet. Dry and mild here, although next week is forecast to be cold.
Said chap didn't turn up yesterday, he says he will be here today. That's the trouble when someone is doing you a favour, you have to fit in around them. Having said that, if OH helps someone he is there when he says he will be, but then he is retired so that makes a difference.
Nothing planned for today, will take it as it comes.
AA, how kind of you to help out the swan. We had a similar situation nearby last week but luckily we have a wildlife sanctuary about 5 miles away and they came and collected it. They do wonderful work hereabouts and I always donate to them when I can.
Ruby, what a bad situation for you.
Izzy, hope you managed to see the GP, and you're feeling easier.
SO, sorry you're feeling down. Sending big hugs to you.
Have a good day everyone whatever you're doing. Take care x

Morning all
Dry here but quite chilly the temps are meant to drop even more next week though.
Off to collect Rob today and go to his work yesterday we made gingerbread people which he enjoyed doing, I asked again for the money yesterday and his mum huffed and puffed a bit but I did insist she gave me some she gave me about half so better than nothing, this is money he owes for me feeding him, sometimes breakfast and lunch and mileage for driving his round etc so nothing out of the ordinary I’ve told her I want the rest next week.
Dinner tonight will be pizza and salad so a nice quick easy dinner, I have put a wash on this morning so will put that on the airer before work.
AA hope you have a better day today xx
Have good days all and take care xx10 -
Morning everyone silver oldie if you possibly can try and go to your walk and talk remember how you couldn’t bring yourself to go weeks ago and you did it maybe you feel it’s not for you I don’t know but try and think of it as it’s an hour out of the house especially in these dark short days it’s one hour less on your own only you know I will be thinking of you all day . I’m off to a cleaning job today I managed to get an appointment with a nurse practitioner but she gave me a prescription for antibiotics so hopefully they will kick in soon . ASA what a horrible day you had but well done for getting help I can understand how that would set your nerves on edge all day . Scarlet since the clocks changed I’ve managed to sleep until four except a couple of nights when I’ve woke at 12 I’ve give up . Gers enjoy your excercise class I hope it’s not to tough I dread to think what I’m facing at this cleaning job today her hubby is not well at all he’s fading before my eyes I don’t know if I notice it more because I only see him once a week I hope he’s here for Xmas . I called at the butchers yesterday and I got some puff pastry parcels filled with chicken and garlic they looked nice something different so they are for tonight the lad in the butchers said they are lovely but he says that about everything must dash . Thinking of all the poorlies hugs to those that need them have a good day everyone whatever you are doing10

Good morning all from Mehefinland
Its dull and dank and horrible but today I don't care. The Rayburn is fixed ( after a lot of bashing and rude words!!) and is lit . The whole house feels warmer already and I'm looking forward to slow cooking in it . As its a solid fuel beastie it can be very unpredictable as to what heat you are going to get. It's usually a case of shove stuff in the oven and check on it in a few hours, unless there is a strong wind blowing - then you're more likely to incinerate the offerings! Currently drying some washing on the top as its not line weather. Just have to keep an eye as it won't be the first time I have singed something.
Supposed to be having some training on our new library system later but the lady doing it has been off work unwell so I am not sure if it is happening. I hope it does as I feel as a trustee I should be able to step in to help if we have a volunteer shortage. We don't have one under the age of 60 and I feel responsible on occasions-says he who is 70 lol!
The local deer park is selling venison and I'm tempted to try it. Have to buy on line and arrange to collect at a suitable time. Never cooked it so any tips (Gers?) would be appreciated.
Hugs and spoons as always

Mehefin aka DerekAs usual, it depends on the cut and size, and your Rayburn may need different instructions. For a whole fillet try this recipe. A good casserole recipe is here, cut down on the red currant jelly to start with, you can always add more.I've never slow-cooked venison so can't offer any advice apart from reminding you that it's very low in fat so be careful, this guide seems comprehensive.Venison is a sustainable product which is also more healthy than other red meats. I hope that you enjoy it.
