Conveyancing solicitor wants a copy of my late Mother's will.

Options
Good afternoon all.,
My Mum passed away in August of 23 and in her Will left everything to myself as her only surviving child.
I applied for Grant of Probate and it was granted in January this year so in April I put house on market and it sold.

Now I am moving home myself and I have sent everything to my solicitors to prove proof of funds and how the monies were  obtained via savings and of course my late Mother's  inheritance including the Grant of Probate from the court.
Two months on they have now asked for a copy of her Last Will and Testament.

My question is for what? And why?
I have asked solicitors this question and they said its just so everything is transparent? Yes I know  everything has to be transparent and I have been.

Would anyone take the time to help me understand please?

Thanks.

As I understand. If the property is still registered in you mother's name, often the case as the title doesn't need to be transferred, it would be necessary to confirm that you are entitled to sell. I am sure you see this as a reasonable precaution.

  • Yes of course.
The property was sold on August 9th this year. And I would of thought if that was the case I would not of been granted probate by the courts or the solicitor who dealt with the sale of her house would not have let it go through?
    That is what is mean.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
  • Because the will shows who she left her estate too, the grant of probate doesn’t. As you have obtained probate the will is now in the public domain so there is no reason not to provide a copy. The solicitor could obtain one from the probate office But no doubt they would charge you for the effort involved in doing it.

Anti money laundering. Anyone can claim they were left an inheritance - but sight of the will provides the necessary evidence.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
  • Thank you very much!
