Hi there, I wonder if you can help me please. Barclays have been charging me additional fees for years for a TECH Pack and a Holiday Insurance. I've never used either of them and to be hones I never paid much atttention to it until I just received a statement of my Annual Fees which are £342 for the year for something I've never used or wanted.
Can I claim this back. Barclays say I can't but surely there must be a way If I have never used the service offered??? Your help and cooperation would be really appreciated please

You not using the service is not a factor in any complaint, you could have used them - same as no refund of car insurance if you don't crash. You can raise a complaint certainly but you would be limited by the time bar laws - 6 years from taking out the package and 3 years from when you knew, or could reasonably have known, you had cause for complaint. If you have had it "for years" you may well be out of the 6 year rule and the statements of costs/benefits plus alternatives which they send out every year will cover the 3 year rule. So if you opened it prior to November 2018 and have had a statement of benefits from November 2021, they will time bar the complaint with no FOS option as the FOS cannot overrule a correctly applied time bar unless the firm agrees.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

As a Barclays customer, these sound like the "Tech Pack" and the "Travel Pack" add-on bundles.
These were insurance add-ons which had to be actively selected in order to enable them. You can't get a retrospective refund from an insurance policy just because you didn't claim.
I didn't click to add them when they were offered because I didn't need them.
Didn't both of these charges appear on your Barclays account statement every month?
• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Certainly the Premier Life account was changed from being a packaged account with a load of insurances for a fee to a free account plus "packs". All the comms when the change happened stated they'd default to inc the packs to recreate your prior offering unless you asked them not to.0 -
All of these paid for accounts now get an annual letter stating what you are getting (the benefits) and the cost annually or monthly.
I don't think that this year would be the first that they have sent one out to you - so in the event of you complaining and they agreeing to a refund - IMO - the most you will get is 12 months' worth.0
