Is it better to add a child to your car insurance mid way through your policy or start a new policy?

My car insurance policy will be up on 18th December and my daughter will turn 17 on the 14th of January. Would it be better (cheaper) for me get short term cover for a month then get a new annual policy with her as a named driver when she turns 17 or simply renew my current policy as usual and add my daughter on her birthday?
She will only be a learner and I will still be the main driver.
Thanks in advance

I've found standalone policies are better anyway so you don't need to touch your own insurance policy.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1

As she is learning go for a standalone learner policy. We used marmalade, but there are other providers.2

Use Marmalade or similar, and look for the cheaper [pro-rata] offerings for longer periods of insurance i.e. 6 months instead of a month at a time.2
