According to what I have heard you are allowed to claim Carers Element even if your not yet granted Carers Allowance as long as you give the Information to prove who you care for.
In regards to this however what happens to your work search if you inform them your caring full time for someone would you be expected to provide proof every fortnight the same as a none carer.

As a carer the person then has no work search requirements.1 -
No proof repeatedly required. No work search requirements. Simply head to "report a change" and select "caring for someone" where it'll ask for details."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0

I'll just add a small note to this. The caring details will need to be verified. If they are verified the carer will remain in the No Work Related Requirments group. If they are not verified, the claimant will move back into the work group appropriate for their circumstances.Spoonie_Turtle said:

Verification presumably consisting of checking the cared-for person claims a qualifying benefit, or is there more to it?TheShape said:

That's pretty much it. Don't think there are any other checks. (Edit: there is another check to see whether anyone else is claiming carers allowance for the same person. I believe there is also check to see if anyone else claims the carer's element for th same person).Spoonie_Turtle said:

There are certainly situations where the verification cannot be completed because the qualifying benefit has been applied for but not yet awarded.0 -
I'd imagine that the DWP would also have to check that no-one else is getting either Carer's Allowance or 'Carer's Element' for looking after the person. I'm assuming the relevant disabaility benefit computer system (eg PIP, AA, ADP, DLA) would hold this information.TheShape said:

You're correct. I did have a feeling there was another check.Robbie64 said:
