laptop advice

hi,

Just looking for a bit of advice really, i'm looking for a laptop that will mainly be used for editing photos, surfing, possibly some game playing and word proccessing, spreadsheets and similar

I was looking initially at the vostro 1000 but i've now a slightly bigger budget of between £350 - 400.

Can anyone recommend anything?

If you take a look on hotukdeals.com there are some Dell 6400's going for about £360 with good specs - 2gig ram, 1.83ghz dual core pentiums, 15.4" screen and 160gb hd. I paid about £460 for mine 6 months ago. Good solid workhorse of a laptop. If still in budget pay a little extra for a higher res screen (1440x900) and the 9 cell battery (I get about 5-7 hours out of one charnge with mine) and opt for XP not vista.

Agreed. I had a laptop from them, have 6 faults within a year. I asked for a refund and they refused to give me one, even though trading standards said I was entitled to one. Went to laptopsdirect.co.uk and they wouldnt give me one either. Got trading standards to write to them and had a refund eventualy after 3 months of arguements etc

Could start another thread on this issue alone, but basically it very slow. Try looking on google. It makes a kick !!! really fast computer very slow. I know it was the same when windows 95 came out then 98 and so on, but honestly its a bit of a lemon, its just window dressing for XP much the same as windows ME for 98.

Even IT pro's are not touching it, no one wants it and Microsoft are trying to force it on users as they need to boost thier income. For example Service pack 3 for XP makes it 10% faster and SP1 for Vista makes it even slower.

I have vista ultimate and XP Pro on my Dell, I have tried vista, and dont get me wrong its not all bad, but it is very slow in comparison.

    Cheers
