I'm late to finding this forum but have a decision to make about filing both a defence and counterclaim to a parking charge notice. Personally, for what it's worth, I'd let it go. Even if, in the unlikely event, you squeeze a couple of hundred from them, no damage to a multi-million pound operator, no reputational injury, no skin off their nose, no financial pain.

In return, you have to mount the offence, research, understand and articulate the elements you are wanting to rely on, maybe face an adversarial lawyer and out-argue him/her who does this for their day job, get your assertions tested by the Judge. And even if the Judge finds for you, he ain't sending MET to jail, hardly even giving them a finger wagging, just telling them to send you a couple of hundred within a month!
