Nope. I paid a tidy sum to move a 1.5 bed bungalow contents half a mile. It's a lot of work and organisation and insurance for the removals company; usually you will have 4 people on the job at the same time and they all have to be paid, too

We had a 4 bed house move in an articulated lorry 200 miles from London to Wales last summer and paid £3k, and that included £600 for a packing service. Had a similar quote from another firm.

    What exactly are they doing?
It it includes packing up all your stuff, then not bad. If it is simply moving pre packed boxes then it could be a bit high. But then again depends on who the company is & exactly how many vans are required?

We paid £1,250 in August to move from a 3 bed through terrace, 4 miles down the road into a semi. We did all the packing, they just moved all the furniture and boxes. Large wagon for household stuff, and smaller wagon for garden stuff. Started at 830, finished by 2pm. 5 blokes did the moving.

Distance does make a difference - paying 5 blokes to sit in a wagon while they drive 200 miles is expensive. 20 miles not so much.

As above, depends what you are getting. If it's the VIP you do nothing and they sort everything, then maybe. Otherwise it sounds high. We got quotes from 3 locals, one of them a big company and 2 smaller companies. 2 did surveys over video call, one came out and went round the house. Could have gone with any tbh, but the price range was £1100 up to £1800. We went for the one that came out, and was middle for price.

We recently paid £2300 for the full packing service for 4 bed house and full garage, to move about 5 miles. In the Midlands. It was the same as the other quotes we received.

If you've asked for a specific day that might make a difference to the quote too - Fridays are likely to be more expensive than other days as there is more demand.
  • yeh plan to get other quotes I think.
