Transitional Protection

We’ve just been transferred from Esa to uc and had our first statement but we seem to be getting less than previously on esa.

Is there a way of calculating what the transitional protection should be?

What other benefits did you claim prior to migration, housing benefit for example is separate to ESA but the housing element is included in UC.
For a meaningful answer you'll need to give more details.
  • Sorry - thanks for the reply, we got Esa my partner was in the support group, and we both got PIP so the extra payment for that - no one claims carers allowance for us. Fortnightly it was around 690. We also got tax credits for a 10 year old which was 77 weekly and I claim carers allowance which is 81.90 per week

    no housing costs

Is there a TP element showing on your statement?

If the answer is no, it can be common for it to be missing from the first statement, if UC haven't received all the information needed in time to calculate it.

Also check if there is a Child element on the statement breakdown, because that is also often missing from the first UC statement.
If there is no Transitional Element and/or no Child Element showing on the statement then put a note on your journal asking where they are.

I just noticed that your partner was in ESA SG, so there should also be a LCWRA Element included on the breakdown.
(That's another one that sometimes doesn't get sorted out in time for the first statement).
  • Thank you - it’s the LCWRA that’s missing - I’ve messaged them now. Thank you all for the help
