Energy Companies re-billing at the new rate as at 1st October

Options
Can anyone help? Has this happened to anyone?
I recently moved from Octopus Energy to British Gas on 1st October giving my last monthly meter readings 29th September to both energy companies. Octopus gave a final bill as of 30th September. On 15th October Octopus credited and rebilled all my gas bills from 1st April at the higher rate of October. This has resulting in an extra bill of £100 although the final meter readings has not changed. It has also wiped out any credit amount I had with Octopus.
My monthly billing for each month shows my customer meter readings and adjustments made accordingly each month or an the following months bill with the new meter readings so why am I being rebilled and charged at a higher rate now?
When I spoke with Octopus customer service in South Africa I was told because the bills were estimates but all my bills show an estimate and my customer readings each month and adjustments made for this.
This has not been done for the electricity side.
Is this a case of energy companies not wanting to give back money if you move and trying to keep money at all costs?

If customer services don't seem to understand your problem, raise a formal complaint.  Sometimes it's the only way to get anybody useful to take a look at it.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

SGas tried the same about 10 years ago on a underestimate catch up bill.

Having ignored 4 past readings at previous bill points 2 by their own meter readers.

I made them recalculate as part of complaint using all 4 sets of readings and reduced for 2 years of rate rises. Twice in fact as their 1st attempt was pretty useless.

I have just switched from Octopus to British Gas. Octopus have sent me a bill for 31 Oct-5th Nov (yes it's about 5 days). The amount they've billed me for isn't the amount shown on the meter (meters display). I'm sure someone will tell me that the meter needs to be updated or something. Anyway, given that the amount shown on the display isn't the amount they've charged me for, I've enquired about it. The difference is actually about £1. But it's "the principle", yarse. the difference could have been £100, but it's about £1.

You just to make sure tha BG use that as your opening reading, they have to agree to set procedures.

There is an industry body that sits between the losing and gaining suppliers and they have the ability to change the reading based on your consumption history, both providers are obliged to use that revised reading.
There is a tolerance limit, but if the difference is only about £1 then you are well within what is permitted.
