Its supposed to do that, that's the whole point of that setting.

In fact its documented here that that's the recommended solution:

So yes you can, but at the expense of everything else on Android.

Note that changing the text size doesn't affect the text of the email itself.

This is contrary to changing the size on the desktop/laptop as that will make the text bigger, and it will send as bigger.
