When I've had to pay my next account I would just pay it with a purchase credit card or use debit card online or in the store.
    Mortgage free wannabe

    Actual mortgage stating amount £75,150

Overpayment paused to pay off cc

    Starting balance £66,565.45

    Current balance £58,108

    Cc around 8k.

  • The 'in store' option is most likely the safest bet for making a transaction on a 0% Purchase credit card without being hit by a 'cash-like transaction'. It will all be trial and error but it is clear they accept major debit and credit cards as they state it.

On a side note, Creation Financial accept credit cards, I use my Barclaycard (Avios Plus) to pay mine and get points with no cash-like transaction or fees.
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

    Secured/Unsecured loans x 1
    Credit Cards x 8 (total limit £55,050)
Creation FS Retail Account x 1
    Creation Credit Sale 0% x 1 = £112.50pm x 20 mths
    0% Overdraft x 1 (£0 / £250)
    Mortgage Outstanding - £137,707.00 (Payment 13/360)
    Total Debt = £7,400 (0%APR) @ £100pm - Stoozing

  • Hi!

I want to clear my NEXT account; on their website under “ Balance Transfer “ they have a section which says that you can do a balance transfer by paying into their NatWest bank account.

However , do I need a balance transfer or a purchase card to directly put money into an account? I’m thinking purchase? Scared to make a mistake and get the wrong one.

Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi Hispanist123, what did you decide to do? In a similar boat here, would like to clear my account but scared to apply for the wrong option.
Any advice or experience gratefully received

Tagging @Hispanist123 just in case, but it looks like they're not active.

The long and short is (unless anyone says otherwise) all Next Directory payments, including account settlements, are sent under the same MCC as they would be if you'd just pay on the site using a credit card for goods. That being the case, you *should* be able to use a 0% Purchase card - but please do a test transaction first just in case (settle a small amount - like £5 - then call your card issuer to check it counts as a purchase before clearing the balance).

A slightly more long winded approach which will definitely work - apply for a 0% purchase card, use the the 0% purchase card to purchase Next gift cards from a physical retail location (e.g. Tesco or Morrisons), then settle your Next account using the gift cards. Doing this all your 0% Purchase Card would see is a transaction at that physical shop, which would definitely be considered a purchase - the only drawback is that you'll probably have to make multiple trips as shops don't like selling large amounts of gift cards any more (because of scams).
