Made redundant but not given CN code to claim

I was made redundant this week as the company can no longer afford to pay their employees and they are going into liquidation. Administrators attended and told us this should be completed by the 20th of this month and then we will get our CN numbers to make a claim for redundancy and loss of earnings as we are not getting this months wage. The last time I was made redundant, the administrators gave us the CN codes then and there. Why would we have to wait for the code as we cannot do anything now until we have them? Thank you.

That would indicate that this time you were told earlier in the process than last time. There is a prescribed process that the insolvency practitioner has to follow, they have to complete an initial audit of the accounts and submit various documentation first before they get the CN from the Insolvency Service to be able to give it to you. I would be almost certain that the reason that they cannot give you the CN until the 20th is because they do not have it and expect it to be issued on the 20th.
  • Hello, sorry to hijack, but did you get your code OK in the end? My OH is in the same position as of yesterday. Was just given a print out of info that is available on Gov.UK website about what he was entitled to but no CN code.  Nothing in writing to say he's even been made redundant which I was a bit worried about. He's been at the company for 11 years so a reasonable sum of redundancy will be due. Thank you
