Does anyone else feel like there has been another large increase in food prices lately?

I always gain the feeling the food prices increase in the New Year.
It's a worry.

I used to buy the 2 for £8 meat deals at Asda, choosing the plain meats which would make the most meals, beef mince, pork steaks, braising steak, or chicken thighs. Now they have only meats which have the weight made up with UPF sauces and coatings. I am disgusted.
Morrisons still have 3 for £10, with 750g of turkey leg mince, 1.2kg of chicken legs and thighs, 500g of pork shoulder steaks, 500g of bacon, or 350g of diced beef. There are a lot of portions for the freezer if you choose wisely. For the same price, £3.33, you could choose a tiny bit of fish in a lot of breadcrumbs and stuff.6 -
@Nelligrace
Agree, am a recent convert to their 3 for £10, and it provides the basis of four or five meals, its a good deal.4 -
Yes I have noticed my grocery bills getting more expensive 5p on this and that it's been gradually getting higher and higher, I tend to use click and collect as going past door and it means I'm not buying things we don't need. I have been on past orders and Dec 23 my bills for same items were less funnily enough the prices I paid for individual items does not show so I could attach examples I only have the total cost of basket, but I can see this years individual prices, funny that I'm sure it would be a real eye opener. Just supermarkets greed6

DH was surprised that the half price leg of lamb was £15- £16 with the Nectar card. He said he thought that was the full price.
Losing touch with reality?
I shall cut and tie it into three small joints for our Sunday pot roast dinners, and make stock with the bone.
I keep trying to use down the meat in the freezer, but this was a good price.4 -
I bought one of the half price legs of lamb. DH cut a thick chunk from the thick end of the leg and cubed it for a lamb tagine. The rest of the leg he cut in half so a couple of weekend joints which we'll get 2 meals from (hopefully) each of them. I'm also hoping the lamb tagine will make enough for 2 meals.
If it comes off that will be 12 meals from a leg of lamb which means the protein element of each meal will be a much more reasonable level that lamb normally is!

Another day another price rise or two.I treat myself over the month before Christmas to Morries Stollen because it's the nicest. Gone from £2 last year to £3 now!So I'll be giving that up - even though it lasts me ages when cut in slices.Seville marmalade has gone up another 35p and it's only a small jar. Guess it's back to making my own.I stayed with a faimily once that asked me to bring citrus fruit as a present. They saved all the peel and pith in the freezer from fruit that was eaten. Then made marmalade with just that. It was delicious.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

And a new way to raise the price I saw today.I keep a Tescos Cottage Pie in the freezer for a quick meal. They were delicious. Then the packaging changed and they definitely weren't delicious.Today the original Cottage Pies are under a 'New' & 'Finest' label at £3. A rise of £1.40 since the start of the year. The not good ones are reduced by 20p.

Wouldn’t it be good if supermarkets had to add honest labels.
NOW EVEN SMALLER!
EVEN LESS MEAT!
REALLY BAD FOR YOU BUT IT IS GOOD FOR OUR PROFITS.
THE ADDED SALT IS TO DISGUISE THE BAD TASTE!
THIS HAS SO MANY PRESERVATIVES IT WILL BE HERE WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER, BUT DO BELIEVE THE BEST BEFORE DATE!11 -
@Nelliegrace that gave me a much needed laugh after yesterday’s supermarket shop. I am so fed up of the latter being in seemingly innocuous items like pesto that I now use the the Yuka app to check all new purchases or those that are suspiciously ‘improved’.I am noticing rising prices too. Even my wee community shop, which used to be an absolute game changer no longer necessarily is cheap. I used to get ten store cupboard items for £3.50 last month this went up to £4.50. Most of these are now tins such as tomatoes or lentils or small packets of basic items. The cost saving is negligible compared to Lidl or Aldi. Whereas in the past I used to pick up wonderful things like boxes of Yorkshire tea as part of this shop. Also their individually priced items are creeping close to shop prices. Butter has gone up from 50p to £2. I also notice that Farmfoods don’t have as many bargain buys. I used to do a fair bit of my shopping between these two, now I am buying the bulk of it at Lidl and Aldi.3
