Information about the Provit letter is here.

If the debt is from 20 years ago and you haven’t had contact for 6 years it should be statute barred

You've settled it by paying less than the full balance by agreement with the creditor.
Partially Settled is the correct mark.
There was probably no need to do this because the debt was probably unenforceable, but, unless you live in Scotland where the law is different, then this is just water under the bridge.
Our recommendation would be to send a prove-it on the second one. Template in the sticky threads
And for future reference don't just pay people who send a speculative invoice even if it says they are offering you a discount0 -
Does statue barred affect your credit rating? Does this go on your record??What proof am I looking for when they come back to me after I have sent the ‘prove it letter’
sorry to be a pain but thank you0 -
If a debt goes statute barred that means there has been a six-year period since the default when you did not acknowledge the debt by payment or in writing
Under a different rule the entire entry drops off your file six years after the default.
So pretty much by definition a statute barred debt cannot affect your credit file
---
You are looking for proof that this is your debt, so a copy of the original agreement
Proof of the balance they quote, so the most recent statement
Whether it's statute barred, so date of last payment/acknowledgement0 -
Is this debt a different one to the debt mentioned in your other thread?

Yep, need to know if this is the debt you are referring to in the other thread. Even if it's different, it's better to put all the I do in one thread. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing1

Yes I am one of the same. I got 2 letters and panicked and paid the reduced payment of £121, but when I went into the portal it told me to pay £170 which I did. Why is this? (They are both about 20 years old. )
The other one which I’m thinking of sending a prove it letter has a reduced payment of £789, I just know it’s not got to say that amount.Am I making myself liable if I log in to the portal? After all these years my situation has change as does most people’s and I haven’t told my partner.I have got anyone to talk to a lot this so really don’t know what to do.Thank you for listening0
