I was going to downgrade my Edge current account to Everday current account to avoid the £3 monthly fee ( not earning enough cashback to cover fee)
Will i be keeping same card/pin/account number?
In order to keep the Edge Saver i would need to open another Edge current account (without adding dd's)??

    Yes.

Yes, you'll need to open a new Edge current account within 60 days of downgrading the old one. Santander will send you an email about this.

Can please I check if this worked for you?. Considering doing the same but concerned that the £3 charge may still apply.

£3 charge only applies if you trigger the cashback requirements on the new Edge current account. That is £500+ deposited in any month (a month begins on the monthiversary of you opening the account) and 2+ active direct debits set up on the account.

Don't do both of these in any one month and then there will be no £3 charge. Easiest way is not to set up any direct debits on the new Edge current account.

My 2nd Edge has not been charged a fee. I do though keep £1 in it and bounce a £1 SO between it and my main account twice a month which hopefully will prevent it from being flagged unused.

  • If I downgrade my Edge account then open another to keep the Edge Saver, will my new Edge account still have the other benefits even though I won't be qualifying for cashback? I'd very much still like to benefit from no transaction fees when using my debit card overseas. Or am I hoping for too much here?

  • Yes, no fees for overseas card spending will apply for the new account.
