Personal Injury Advice Please

BACKTOBACK

I was hit by a car travelling at high speed while walking across a road as a pedestrian. This was early October. Was taken to a major trauma hospital with many broken bones, open fractures, dislocated joints and lots of bruising. Had surgery including metal plates and screws to repair some of the injuries but it is unclear if i will ever be able to walk normally and unaided again.
I am slowly making adaptions to my home both inside and out to make it more accessible.
I have already suffered great loss financially and will have ongoing additional costs with rehabilitation.
I have approached a very well known Solicitor to ask for help with a personal injury compensation claim. They offer a no win no fee arrangement but with the total success fees i am worried that i would not have enough money left to pay for my costs.
I am not using Nelsons Solicitors but have put a link to show what i mean as i believe the Solicitor i am considering using has a similar deal:
https://www.nelsonslaw.co.uk/truth-no-win-no-fee/
As you can see if i was for example awarded £50k then its possible i could just receive £6,250?
Unfortunately i do not have any legal expenses cover on my home insurance.
Does anyone have experience with this type of thing? Do i have to choose the no win no fee to get anything? As my injuries are serious i will require adaptions both inside and outside the property and this will not cover my expenses?
I know nothing about this type of claim so if anyone could offer any help or advise i would be very grateful

How strong is your case? Was the driver prosecuted for any offence related to the accident?0

Have the police provide you with the insurance details of the car driver?
you can contact them direct
they would prefer to deal with you in house especially as the extent of injuries does sound like it will be an ongoing claim rather then an open and closed here’s you me money go away type deal0 -
Check to see if you have legal assistance on your home insurance. Apologies if you have already done that.

The police are looking to charge the driver but this will need to go to court. The police have camera footage. I think this will take a long time though. I was unconscious and also given ketamine at the roadside so all i can remember is my head hitting the windscreen, going over the car and laying on the road. After this i have no memory until the following day and after surgery. The police have driver details, witness statements and camera footage but a solicitor has said its unusual for the police to release video footage until after the court case. The police are restricted as to what they can provide me due to data protection. But i believe a solicitor could get driver registration details and therefore trace the insurance from that0

The Nelson case is true to a degree but they say success fees can be up to 100% which is true for many types of claim but for personal injury the success fee is capped at a maximum of 25% of your award and so using the same assumptions the claimant would get £28,750 not the £6,250 stated.
It is also overly simplified and whilst their maths is true there are other considerations, most importantly was the 100% success fee reasonable and risk assessed or was the client clearly told its arbitrary and equally some choose to set a cap below 25%, its a limit not a target.
Look at other sources of funding too, unions and some other associations provide legal services to their members1
