I also made a note of any official reference numbers like NI - astonishingly I needed that for my mum a decade after my dad died in relation to a pensions form.
  • There is information that covers record keeping post probate on the gov.uk website
How to value an estate for Inheritance Tax and report its value: Records - GOV.UK
Other people also suggest you should also keep
    • The original birth, marriage and death certificates for the deceased and their spouse, or a copy of any Court orders such as a divorce degree.
How long to keep is a different matter - the website referenced above says 20 years, other sites say 3, 7 or 12 years
