Parking fine - the car in the photo is mine - but in Northern Ireland!

I unexpectedly received a parking fine via the DVLA in Northern Ireland for £90.
They have sent photos and it is indeed my car - correct make, model and unusual colour, correct number plate, even shows how I have the headrests at different heights.
However.... this allegedly happened on a road in Bangor (NI) and I have never been to Ireland in my life!

I have contacted them and they are looking into it and have contacted the police who have advised me to pay the fine in the meantime as bailiffs have been threatened.

I was at work that day (in south east England) and my car was parked at home. Nobody else has use of it.

Has this happened to anyone else? It's a very elaborate scam and I would like to get to the bottom of it.

    Which company issued the charge.?

Get a crime number for the cloned vehicle aspect ( from the police. )

Its clearly NOT your vehicle if it's a clone vehicle with a different VIN , its just a good copy, a fake , it cannot be YOUR CAR if your car was on your drive in South east England

    Who threatened bailiffs. ?

I would suggest that you add identifying features to your vehicle, such as bumper stickers etc in order for yours to be different

Check the number plate fixings on the pictures, play spot the difference

Seriously... the police told you to pay it because "bailiffs have been threatened"? Who is this person who has threatened the poor bailiffs?  :o
  • Does your car have NI number plates? As they have different registration number format from the rest of the UK, a British number plate would stand out a mile.

Shocking if the police really did give the advice you claim.

At the end of the day, there is no keeper liability for an event that occurred in NI, so they can't go after the keeper, come what may. And court action in NI against a resident in some other part of the UK would be far too complicated for any PPC.

    Nope. English number plate.

It looks like an excellent case of AI/photoshopping but I don't get why someone would go to such lengths to do this when they have nothing to gain from it.

Cloned vehicles replicate known details in order for ANPR to believe they are taxed and insured etc , because the legitimate owner of the real vehicle is doing just that. ( More effective in the other 3 nations than NI , especially useful in England and Wales for the cloned vehicle. )

But you failed to answer our questions regarding your case itself ( not sidetracking about why clones exist. )

    Who issued the PCN?

Definitely alleging Bangor NI and not Bangor (Wales)?

Car park or road? Where exactly?

Show us this PCN with your data & PCN number & the VRM redacted.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
