OP made no mention of cancelling, only worry around may not go ahead.Grumpy_chap said:
Surely, if the OP receives a refund for the deposit already paid - it does not matter who from - then the booking is cancelled in any case.born_again said:

But the OP did want a refund:born_again said:

I fail to see how the OP can receive a refund and the booking not be considered cancelled (whether the booking could have gone ahead or not).wilfie29 said:I booked a hotel room and 2 lodges at Christmas. A deposit was paid on the lodges by credit card. My mum paid the deposit for the hotel room on her debit card. We found out by chance that the hotel & lodges have been bought out and us closed for refurbishment until further notice. Noone has contacted us about it. I am unable to get hold of the hotel, as the website went down, noone answering phones or emails. I was able to speak to someone from the sister hotel who said they would refund us. This was a week ago and still nothing. We have no idea who the new owners are.
Who should be responsible for the refund - new or old owners?
I will try and claim on my credit card if no luck. Can my mum make any sort of claim having paid on a debit card? I'd love any advice please 🙏

OP is only wanting a refund as they have had no contact. Not that they have decided to cancel. 🤷♀️Grumpy_chap said:

BUT, if the OP does get a refund, that will mean the booking is cancelled.born_again said:OP is only wanting a refund as they have had no contact. Not that they have decided to cancel. 🤷♀️
The balance is not yet due - IIRC, the OP said this is due at the end of this month. It might be worth the OP giving a bit of time for things to be communicated by either the old or the new owner of the hotel - if there is an operating hotel, it is almost certain that *someone* will send a reminder when the balance is due to be paid.0 -
Title of the thread is hotel cancellation refund…Looks to me like the OP wants a refund and is quite aware the booking would be cancelledborn_again said:
