    The answer to the first question is as soon as possible. Hopefully the deceased kept good records for their executors so going through 7 years of bank accounts won’t be nesessary.

    As for the second question the answer is no, a gift does not form part of the heritable estate although it will be included for IHT purposes if it was done within 7 years of the death.
