Advice needed.  My son, who is 24 has been a complete pillock.  Whilst working away from home for several months he recklessly accumlated a huge stack of parking tickets (both local authority & Private company PCNs).  He was so freaked out about them, he pretended to himself that they would go away. Consequently he is now in deep debt for them and being freelance without regular work he has no way of paying for them.   He has no assets.  Would bankruptcy be a viable option for him?  or an IVA?  What would this mean for him?

  • Huge stack? how much roughly are we looking at?
Philnicandamy's OH and mum to a two year old god help me! :p:p
  • The private PCN,s can be addressed on the MSE private parking board so you wont be paying those invoices as they are not tickets from a authority .
Another site exists for fighting council tickets but I have forgotten the sites name so they will update you on that too.

Add up the tickets, the number and total value, divided into private and council tickets. If it is impossibly large even if he wins a few battles, then insolvency may be a better option. But an IVA is for people with assets to protect - does he own a car, worth how much?

There is a third form of insolvency called a Debt Relief order that has no fee, unlike bankruptcy. But requires every ticket to be listed, in bankruptcy they are all wiped even if a few are missed off.

We're talking about £15K with all the increases in fines etc.

His car is now defunct.  So worth vurtually nothing.
  • On the MSE private parking board when serious money is involved via multiple invoices Contestor Legal services .and Jackson Yamba are mentioned .
This year they have had some impressive wins regarding unregulated private parking
