Retrospective gifting

Options
My mum died in May 2024, my father is still alive. IHT is not an issue. Can we make a £6k gift from "both" for 2023/24 and the same for 2024/25?

The £3000 is an annual exemption not a limit. You father can use any of unused exemption from last year to gift you £6000 that will fall out of his estate immediately but you mother’s exemption is lost. That does not stop him gifting you more but that will be subject to the 7 year rule, but as IHT does not seem to be an issue that is neither here nor there.
