Student finance won't cover uni fees after finishing the year

Due to her course starting in July and my daughter enrolling in September, she accidentally applied for student finance in the wrong academic year. She was not notified and was only made aware when applying for the second year that the first wasn't paid for (after hours on the phone to SF and the Uni) by the time we had worked out the issue, SF have said they are unable to backdate that far and my daughter now owes the Uni the fees. Obviously she is unable to pay for the course outright. Any ideas what she can do?
