Bought my home after renting it for 9 years. Agency and landlady dragging heels with returning deposit - deposit with TDS custodial. Also completion for house buy meant I had over paid by 2 weeks rent. I’m also trying to get that back too. Not sure where I stand legally as agency keep telling me old landlady has to give permission for me to have deposit back and that I need to get rent off landlady myself even though I paid the rent to the agency for 9 years and never dealt with the landlady . Any advice?

You make a claim to the deposit protection scheme for your deposit back. They them will contact the landlady and ask if she has any objections or wants any of it for damage ( unlikely as you've just bought the house from her). If she has no objections they will refund the deposit to you. The agent has nothing to do with this1

yet another tenant who for 9 years has not found out how the world has been amended to protect them (at expense of the LL) but doubtless would be front of any queue for claiming compensation if there was a sniff of such
OP claim deposit direct from the respective scheme - you can look up how to do a one sided claim yourself
as for overpaid rent learn the process for making a court claim if you want to do the formal route of meaningful threats to force issues2 -

I take it you have already dealt with changing the locks - in the circumstances probably an annoying inconvenience, but definitely something that ought to be done.
