Santander switch query

Is it ok to switch a sole account  and open a joint account with Santander for their switch incentive? Thanks in advance.

As with any other switch, you need to open the new account first and then do the switch afterwards - sole to joint switches are allowed by the CASS rules but not the other way round....

In this situation you're better off having each person who would be name on the joint account opening a sole account instead, and then each doing a sole account switch. This way you can each get a bonus (ie. 2x £150), rather than just one bonus for the joint switch. After the incentives are paid, you can then make one of the accounts joint if that's what you're ultimately after. But otherwise you can do as you propose. Once the joint account is open, you can switch a sole account in the same name as one of the joint account holders into the joint one without issues.

    Hello

I would like to try this new Santander £150 switching offer but am confused re eligibility.

The MSE weekly newsletter says that people are eligible for the bonus if they haven't had a switching bonus "since September 2021". But when I click on the Santander link, their own terms say "This isn't available if you've already had an incentive payment", i.e. it does not qualify it by mentioning any date, so it implies this means if you have "ever" had a prior bonus.  Please does anyone know which is correct?

The MSE info also suggests you can switch into an existing account (including an Everyday Current) instead of opening a new Edge account, but Santander's own page doesn't seem to say this - unless I'm missing the correct part of the terms...

I previously had the Amazon vouchers for switching to Santander.  Would these count as an "incentive payment" as it was a voucher and not a cash incentive.

Many thanks if anyone happens to know.

I see the Sept 2021 date mentioned on Santander.
You can switch into an existing Santander accout if its an eligible one, Edge, Edge Up, Everyday or Private(V2)

There's a thread on this particular switch offer which I'll link to below, which links directly to the T&Cs from Santander. Never rely on the paraphrased version from MSE and always get your info directly from the source. In this case the terms do say in the fine print that you won't be eligible if "anyone named on the Santander account has previously received an incentive payment to switch to a Santander current account since September 2021".

  • I participated in the "amazon voucher incentive" back in February 2019. The latest offer states "September 21" as the cut off date for previous incentives. I have a current account ready with 2 DD`s running and am tempted to go for this Santander switch offer. It will be my first switch attempt in many years!
I presume you have to wait 60 days plus up to 30 days before knowing if you are successful?

You do have to wait, but based on what you've said you are eligible - just remember you have to pay in at least £1,500 within the 60 days, although it doesn't all have to be in one go if you don't have a spare £1,500 hanging around.
