2002 corsa alarm not working?

Options
I have a 2002 vauxhall corsa sxi 1.2L I'm currently repairing. When I was looking through the manual I discovered it supposedly has an alarm.
However in all the time I've owned it (over a year), said alarm has never switched on.
I'm presuming it's faulty, or is it an alarm you can turn off?

The insurance quotes have been more expensive than my convertible so I'm looking for any way to make it cheaper.
Hoping I can fix it myself, unless it's something I'd have to go to vauxhall for.

Owner manuals often list features that are optional and not present on all models. What makes you sure it should have one?

Most car alarms never go off...

Try leaving a window open, with car turned off & then open door or such with key no where near..

The alarms usually auto set when you remote lock the doors.

To set it off you unlock and open the door with the key in the keyhole (how quaint and old-fashioned ;) )

Then to stop the feeble noise that everyone just ignores, either turn on the ignition, or lock with the remote.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • I had the opposite issue, mine would not stop going off on my Vectra estate.
Turned out the be the lines painted in the glass on the rear left and right windows, like rear screen heater.
Disconnected them and joined the wire together, job done.

    Leave well alone.

It won't work as there's no alarm for the SXi.
Only the SRi's and Elegance came with a factory alarm as standard.

Thank you! Thought it didn't have one, manual just confused me
