Econ 7 washing machine and noise

This might be one for another thread but I am looking to replace the washing machine, mainly as it is very noisy and the floor shakes when it's on. Being on the top floor, and only using the machine overnight on Econ 7 times, this is a big deal. At the same time, I don't want one that will calculate the load as I need to be sure that it finishes within the Econ 7 time. That said, I expect the current machine - age unknown as was inherited - is not so energy-saving as new ones. What should I be looking for then, in terms of noise and electrcity usage? Thanks for any pointers.

We've just replaced our 18 year old LG with another LG. They are direct drive with inverter controlled motors so remarkably quiet and vibration free.

Although its got multiple programmes my wife is more than happy with the 39 minute Turbo Wash for virtually all of our stuff (40 degrees and 1200spin).

It also has wifi, not because we want it, but it does tell you what is going on and how much energy it uses.

We've run it four cycles so far and its used a total of 1.59kwh (approx 37pence) of leccy

You are never going to get a completely silent machine although stuff like Miele might be pretty good but at a price.

One thing to check before you replace the machine (and it’s something that applies to any replacement) is that the thing is perfectly level, left to right, from to back. If it’s not then this is usually the cause of shaking and noise. Similarly, have all transit screws been removed?  Assumes your existing one does all you need time wise.

It's been like that for at least 4 years but is deffo noisier and at one point had started to move around a bit. Not sure how long it was here before then as the place was tenanted.

When I run my machine overnight, I turn the spin cycle off. Then I run a seperate spin cycle when I wake up. For my machine it's only the spin cycle that's noisy.

You could also buy some rubber blocks for the feet for it to sit on. But if it still works ok, turning off the spin cycle, as above, sounds like the cheapest solution.
  • Unfortunately, there's no option to do that. It's a very basic Indesit machine. I often do a second spin in the morning to get as much water out as possible but the initial spin is pre-progammed.

    Another vote for LG.

We replaced a Beko washer dryer with an LG washer dryer and it is remarkably quiet when in spin mode. In fact the dryer mode is noisier than the spin cycle!!

I'd still be surprized if it doesn't support delayed spin. Read the manual - it's not always obvious.

We must have been unfortunate with our LG washing machine (FH4U2VCN2) or it was a bad design that has been updated.

Purchased in January 2017. Within a year the plastic suspension mounting base had failed and needed replacing. Then the same thing happened again two years later. The engineer said it was a design fault. After that, the powder dispensing draw and front plate needed replacing because the draw vibrated terribly. Finally, just before the 5 year main warranty expired, the main bearing on the drum failed and the whole drum had to be replaced.

Touch wood it has been OK since, but it is noisy and vibrates badly. It sits perfectly level on a solid tiled floor. I tried using some of those rubber noise isolation blocks to put under the feet, but they were too flexible and it just shook itself off them on a regular basis. It now sits on 4 pieces of self adhesive backed anti slip tape to stop it dancing around the tiles.
