Are You Good At Maths??

I have been selling hanging topiary balls for a year now on ebay. But i was stumped by a question from a poss buyer..
My balls (excuse the way that sounds!) are 23 and 28cm diameter which i put on the listing.
I'd ran out of the larger ones when someone asked me the circumference of them!! as you do...
so i dragged my mind back20 years to school and came up with
"the circumference of a circle is PI r squared"
so therefore PI = 3.14 x radius x radius...are you with me so far?
3.14 x 14 x 14 = 615.44  (14 being radius of 28cm balls)
There is NO WAY that is the circum???!! they are approx 75cm as i have now found out.
But why wont that equation work out?
what have i done wrong?Hubby good at maths but he couldnt get it either, i did get the o level honest!

PI r squared is the area, circumference is Pi x d:
PI x 28 = 3.14 x 28 = 87.92cm.
Can't imagine why anyone would ask the circumference though - surely the diameter you already provide would be all that's needed.0 -
hi there, diameter is 2 pie r so 2*3.14* radius (half of diameter = 14) = 87.4cmIt's BOUGHT not bRought

Why dont you just get a tape measure and measure it all the way round?
..or Try this

for rule of thumb just use 3 x Diameter.
ie 30 cms x 3 = 90 cms.
close enough for an enquiry on ebay. and always use the word "approx".
some morons can come back and haunt you, if not exact!Get some gorm.0 -
People are bonkers with the questions they ask :rotfl: and surely the time it took them to write to you that could have worked it out themselves.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712
